Tuesday Roundtables
As a part of the Global Medallion program, points could be accumulated for attending Tuesday Roundatables; which discussed political, global, gender and sustainability topics that were relevant to successful leadership and global citizenship; we as students need.
Two Roundtables that stood out to me were; The US & Cuba-Normalizing Relations and Women in the Workplace.
The discussion about Cuba sought to put into perspective how things would change with the adjustment of attitudes in Government in respect to Tourism, their Economies, and the real motives for the Normalization. I was intrigues by the wealth of knowledge and research my peers had on both country's history and made probable cases for the normalization.
With Women in the Workplace, I relearned many things I was taught about stereotypes of women and how this damaging view of them, continue to hold them back. Re-learning these things and gaining new insight from different genders and cultural backgrounds, gave me an added opportunity to discuss these barriers with others who were not aware they existed or refused to believe they did.

Haitian Student Organization MentorOne of my favorite programs in which I was able to participate in with the Global Learning Program, was the HSO Summer Mentorship Program. This program sought to culturally, socially, academically, and personally challenge and grow 7th and 8th graders. Activities like Drum presentations and the history of Haiti and the rest of the Caribbean were discussed with the young Haitian-Americans. The students were also enlightened by the Current Politic unrest in Dominica Republic. It was important for them to know what their brothers and sisters, not far off the coast of Florida, were copping with. The students were taught on a daily basis to embrace their cultures, dreams and uniqueness. The students were also exposed to Pre-Collegiate programs and studies to help ready their minds for the academic challenge.
